Homepage Update - November 2011

Tim Reynish

My last homepage was in August, and was all about music, with links to reviews of the concerts in the WASBE 15th Conference in Taiwan, a wonderful week with many new friends and new music. The three months since then have been spent partially celebrating our Golden Wedding anniversary, partially celebrating the arrival of a seventh grandchild, and partially wondering what we have achieved in thirty years of WASBE and BASBWE. Not much to celebrate here, because I cannot help feeling that the wind orchestra medium should by now have a place alongside symphony and chamber orchestra, opera, chamber music, Lieder and the many multifarious forms of “Art” music. Once again this year there was no sign of co-operation between the main wind organisations, WASBE, CBDNA, NBA and the others. Once again there was no wind music in the BBC Proms, very little wind music played on the BBC despite 2011 being the 50th anniversary of the death of Percy Grainger.

Despite that, there is more good music, nay, great music, on professionally produced CDs than ever before. So I am taking up the computer once again, taking on Jason, my fourth web developer (many thanks to the first three), and meandering on about some of the great music which has come across my desk. Have a great Autumn, Spring or Fall, depending on where you are. Please let me have any news items of international importance for the next Homepage.
