William Francis McBeth (March 9, 1933 – January 6, 2012)
Francis McBeth was widely respected as a composer and pedagogue, whose career composing for wind band began in 1954 with Orfadh, and continued for over forty years, embracing some fifty works. Among the best known are: 1963 Chant and Jubilo 1970 Divergents 1971 The Seventh Seal 1976 Kaddish for Symphonic Band 1988 They hung their Harps in the Willows 1990 Of Sailors and Whales 1995 Through Countless Halls of Air 1997 The Sea Treaders

WHO MAY ENTER: Anyone REQUIREMENTS: A work for concert band with no restrictions as to style or form. Compositions must be for Grade II/III concert band and accessible to young bands. WHO MAY ENTER: Anyone 40 years of age or younger (birthdate on or before November 1, 1972) REQUIREMENTS: A work for concert band with no restrictions as to style or form. Compositions must be for GRADE III/IV CONCERT BAND and must not exceed eight (8) minutes in length. ENTRY MATERIALS: Full score and compact disc recording of specified instrumentation.
