THREE IMPORTANT WORLD PREMIERES

3-21, Portraits for Horn and Symphonic Orchestra is a piece in four movements concerto form for horn. It has been commissioned by the Fundación Síndrome de Down de Madrid. I choose this title because the persons with Down syndrome have 3 chromosomes number 21.

The piece will be premiere in May 31 in Madrid by the ORCAM (Orquesta Sinfónica de la Comunidad de Madrid) with the virtuoso Radovan Vlatkovic in the solo part. Croatian Radovan Vlatkovic, professor at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and the School of Music Reina Sofia in Madrid, is one of the finest solo horn players in the world. The ORCAM will be directed by José Ramón Ecinar.

On July 25 at WMC Kerkrade, the CIM Symphonic Band Harmonia Brunol directed by Frank de Vuyst will give the completed trilogy Marco Polo, including the world premiere oif the third part, Marco Polo, The Book of India.

Finally September 30 will see the world premiere of Alarcon’s Symphony for Wind Orchestra, commissioned by a consortium of 14 Universities of the Southeastern Conference Band Directors Association. The first premiere will be given at the Koger Centre for the Performinmg Arts in Columbia, South Carolina, by the University of South Carolina Wind Ensemble, directed by Scott Weiss.
