Reading maketh a full man, conference a ready man, and writing an exact man.

Sir Francis Bacon

English author, courtier, & philosopher (1561 - 1626)

Even if he did not write the plays of Shakespeare, Sir Francis Bacon got it right about Conferences, I must be one of the readiest conferenciers in wind music at present, since I have been lucky enough to attend all four major conferences, WASBE German, CBDNA, BASBWE and WASBE Killarney. I have tried for exactness by writing about my impressions of the repertoire in all four.

In addition to all four reviews of conferences music and performances, I am posting my survey of selected premieres of the past two years together with a listing of some two hundred and fifty works, and a special review of music for the less experienced bands.

I hope you might find some useful ideas for repertoire for the coming season, and I am also posting three promised files which have been delayed since the last homepage, dealing with the music of Adam Gorb (born 1958), Alec Wilder (born 1908) and a look at Spanish music and its potential.

Have a great Autumn or Spring. I shall spend the fall semester 2007 as Visiting Professor, State University of New York – Fredonia,

REPERTOIRE: REVIEW OF SELECTED PREMIERES 2005 – 2007

This is a personal review of some two hundred and fifty works submitted by composers and conductors since WASBE Singapore in 2005. I tried to cover a wide range of styles and interests, with something for conductors of school bands, amateur, professional college and conservatoire.

REPERTOIRE: LISTING OF PREMIERES 2005-2007

WASBE GERMANY: CONFERENCE 2007

Review of concerts in Stuttgart at the second WASBE Germany Symposium

CBDNA: CONFERENCE 2007, ANN ARBOR

Review of concerts and selected repertoire. There were many works which I would love to recommend but which I am leaving out to concentrate on two per concert. Unfortunately we were rarely given dates for the works, and never publishers, so for more information please contact the band or ensemble.
