web-master PROGRAMMING
THIS SPRING I
am lucky to be celebrating Spring in 2008 with concerts at the one of the
leading specialist music schools in the world, the National Youth Wind Orchestra
of Wales (especially in this year of the welsh Grand Slam), one of the world’s
leading military concert bands, one of the top amateur wind ensembles and
finally one of the leading Conservatoire wind ensembles. The programmes are
listed below. CONDUCTING
COURSE There
are still a few vacancies at the Canford/BASBWE International conducting course.

PUBLICATION FROM GUY WOOLFENDEN Newly
out from Ariel is Guy’s DIVERTIMENTO, written for Birmingham Symphonic Winds
at WASBE 2007 and available on CD from Mark Custom records on 7221-MCD, score
and information from www.arielmusic.co.uk NEW
PUBLICATION FROM JAMES SYLER In
response to a commission from twenty leading USA Universities, James Syler has
written an ingenious and fascinating minimalist work called Tattoo
in which the wind orchestra divides into two, woodwind and percussion who repeat
fragments rhythmically though not together, and brass who play more controlled
chords and fragments underneath this minimalist kaleidoscope.
Lasting about eight minutes, this is a great work to introduce your
players to the aleatoric world of
Steve Reich and his colleagues. Highly recommended - more information from
