CANFORD SUMMER SCHOOL OF MUSIC 2007 at SHERBORNE

SIXTEEN YEARS OF BASBWE CONDUCTING COURSE

The first BASBWE/Canford Conducting course was held in 1991 following a decision at the Glasgow BASBWE Conference to run a course annually.

Since then over 300 students have attended the course at Canford Summer School, which is now held in the beautiful surroundings of Sherborne School in West Dorset.

BASBWE/CANFORD WIND BAND CONDUCTOR'S COURSE

in association with the BASBWE Education Trust

Timothy Reynish

Phillip Scott

Mark Heron

This course is for wind band conductors at the intermediate and advanced levels, though musicians with no experience will be accommodated and will find the sessions very useful.. Up to twenty-five students will be accepted as "active" participants working from two repertoire lists. Lists A and B are for the experienced student whilst list B is for the less experienced student. Observers are also encouraged and will be fully involved in general technique sessions, discussions and playing in the class ensemble, but they will only conduct at the discretion of the tutors.

Sherborne Abbey

The class will explore conducting techniques, score preparation, rehearsal and training skills. A CD and score library will be available for reference and special emphasis will be placed on extending the knowledge of repertoire at all levels. A video recorder will be used to analyse technical requirements and development. The course will run concurrently with the Symphonic Wind Orchestra and there will be close liaison between the two. All participants should bring with them any instruments they play, in order to accommodate ensemble work within the class. Those with problems transporting bulky instruments should let the Office know as soon as possible.

For further information about the music and for useful preliminary handouts, please check on www.timreynish.com or http://homepage.ntlworld.com/mark.heron2/index1.html from November 10th.
