BASBWE BASBWE was founded by Timothy Reynish during the First International Conference of Symphonic Bands and Wind Ensembles at the Royal Northern College held in Manchester in July 1981. This was also the occasion of WASBE's founding. In 1992 The BASBWE Education Trust was set up as a registered charity, and since then has ploughed a great deal of money into conductor training, the formation of new bands and other educational events. In 1996 BASBWE took over the management of the Boosey & Hawkes National Concert Band Festival. ACHIEVEMENTS BASBWE has commissioned more than 30 works for winds, many of which have been published and are now staples in the repertoire. Every year a National conference has been held in various venues, including Bristol, Coventry, Glasgow, Huddersfield and Canterbury, but more usually at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. BASBWE has maintained the publication of its Journal Winds over 18 years, and it has grown to become a respected resource internationally. STRUCTURE BASBWE has over 800 members, of which about half are individuals, and over 200 are band members. The remainder is made up of music services, associations and trade members. This represents a pool of many thousands of players. There are eight BASBWE regions throughout the UK, many of which have active committees and organise regional events. The National Executive Committee comprises representatives of all these regions, as well as office-bearers of the Association. There are several sub-committees, entrusted with overseeing the National Concert Band Festival, Marketing, Membership, Music commissions, Conferences, Community Bands and Education.
